off season

Travelling to Europe in the low season is plenty of fun. Check out these awesome things to do in Europe during the Fall/Winter off season:

Chestnut Festivals, Italy

In September and October, there are countless chestnut festivals that happen throughout several cities in Italy. At these festivals, which happen during the chestnut harvest season, you can experience why Italians are obsessed with Chestnuts when cooking (perfect if you love food!). Grab some awesome chestnut products, which are all made locally, and you will be given a taste of what Italians can do with chestnuts. We love the Tarzo chestnut festival and the chestnut and wine festival that happens in Sicily (because who doesn’t want wine with their meal?). Both of these festivals happen in October. The best part of this excursion is that Italy is warm all year round so you won’t have to worry about travelling to Italy at this time of year.

Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest is the most fun event that happens in Europe, period. You can do just about anything during this 16-day festival that happens in Munich from September to October. Enjoy the best beers in the world as well as stellar live music performances, carnival rides, a parade and even some beer barrel tapping! Nowhere else on earth can you find this much beer and delicious food in one place! We promise you will not be disappointed. This year, the festival will happen from September 17 to October 3. What are you waiting for?

La Mercè, Barcelona

Spain is awesome to visit at any time of the year because it always has beautiful weather. If you happen to be there at the end of September, do not miss the legendary La Mercè festival that happens at this time. The festival features several days of live music, a wine fair, fireworks and more before ending with a grand feast on the last day of the festival. This is the most popular thing to do for locals in Barcelona, so be sure not to miss it! Also, almost all activities are FREE and during this time the public transit runs all night (so you never have to stop partying).

Our Lady of Nazaré Festival, Portugal

There is something for everyone at this festival that happens every fall in Portugal including folk dancing, several different fairs, bullfighting, fireworks and an awesome lineup of concerts. The festival usually starts in mid-September and takes place in the beautiful city of Lamego, which lies on the scenic shores of the Balsemão River. If you are visiting this beautiful city in the fall time, do not miss this awesome festival to experience just how fun Portugal can be.
