3 Boutique Restaurants that make Toronto a Thai Food Haven

June 10, 2016

We’ll say it again: Toronto has every type of ethnic cuisine in the world! Thai food is one of its specialties. Try these top boutique restaurants that will take your Thai food experience to the next level!

Bolan Thai Cuisine

This brand new Thai restaurant brings an amazing new foodie experience to Midtown! To pair a Bolan (Ancient) theme with a modern twist you’ll find Thai food products, old stereos and even a coconut shredder as part of the décor. Bolan signature dishes are a must try! My favourite signature dish is “Khao Soi” because it has both amazing presentation and taste! The Bolan Pad Thai is very unique: it comes with an egg crepe and “Woon-sen” (mung bean) noodles. Overall the food is fresh, very well presented and tastes homemade. Don’t forget to leave room for mango sticky rice and get your camera ready after you order!

Thai Noodle

This hidden gem is located in the Wychwood neighbourhood within walking distance from the famous “Dutch Dreams” ice-cream shop. It is Toronto’s first Guay Tiew Thai (noodle) restaurant! You can find so many varieties of noodles at this place; it reminds me of street noodle carts in Thailand. Some amazing dishes include the classic Guay Tiew (rice noodle soup), Guay Tiew Reur (Boat noodle), Guay Tiew Yen Ta Fo (tomato soup base) and Ba-mee (egg noodle soup). If you like spicy, I recommend the Guay Tiew Tom Yum! So many noodles, so little time!

Nana

Situated in the hip Queen West neighbourhood, Nana has done a great job with the décor that resembles street food stalls in Thailand. Even the signage is written in Thai letters and mean “Restaurant”. The spice level of the food here is almost non-negotiable and equivalent to the restaurants in Thailand! Be careful with those bird’s eye chilies! Papaya salad, Mushroom Laab, Tom Yum, and Boat noodles are worth a try. You can find the “Chang” (Elephant brand) beer from Thailand here. To cool you off from the heat, try the banana “Roti” with condensed milk and some Thai tea Ice cream on the side! What a closer!
