New York Fashion Week 2018

New York From Above During New York Fashion Week 2018

From Tom Ford, Alexander Wang, Bottega Veneta, Oscar de la Renta, to Prabal Gurung – so far New York Fashion Week 2018 has had nothing but beautiful and inspiring pieces that will be showcased during the Spring and Summer. Here are some notable trends to keep your eyes on for your Spring/Summer wardrobe 2018! So far we have seen a huge inspiration in the 90s trends happening, whether we see it on the streets or on the runway – there were a lot of bright and bold colours showcased through different windbreaker style jackets that will be a huge trend that we will see in every clothing store. Another great trend that we saw across the runway during New York Fashion Week 2018 over the past 2 weeks was a variation of jeans with some sort of blazer – or fancy top piece that really contrasted each other by allowing evening wear to be paired with something as casual as jeans. Another obvious trend that was showcased was bright and vibrant colours – designers were not afraid to showcase colours and step away from neutral palates. The next trend is perfect for Spring – sheer, delicate fabrics. No matter what – you can dress up or down the sheer look and it will be exciting to see how fashion lovers go about styling these fabrics and designs.

One designer that always seems to stand out is Alexander Wang – he always seems to find a different approach to New York Fashion Week by going above and beyond with where he pulls his inspiration from. He stayed clear of any other colours but neutral tones (black, white, grey) with the exception of a few looks that incorporated a beautiful pink/fuchsia colour. The show was inspired by the office corporate lifestyle as the runway took place in a corporate office. The collection incorporated some serious working girl trends pulled from the 80s and 90s, with tiny edgy sunglasses to an oversized blazer and leather trench coats. The collection felt nostalgic and really grasped the trends that we have been seeing on celebrities over the last little while. Another collection that felt very nostalgic was Tom Ford – the designer pulled major 80s vibes and was the true testament that yes – headbands are back! Forget soft eye make-up – Model Kaia Gerber rocked dark black smudged eyeshadow with little to no other make-up and she looked fierce.

After reading this you may either be super overwhelmed or inspired and want to know how these trends can be translated into street style and incorporated into your everyday looks. Keep on reading to find out how you can simply pull some of these trends into your wardrobe!

Bold Colours

Although we are still in winter – some of us are sick of wearing boring neutral colours and want to start incorporating those Bold Colours shown during New York Fashion Week 2018. This look doesn’t have to be overdone – it can be simple and really look great! Incorporate a pair of bold red trousers with a chunky neutral sweater or a grey checkered blazer with a comfy teddy bear style coat on top – this pop of red is enough to get people to stop you on the street but you still have those neutral colours that pull the look together.

Suits and Blazer’s

The oversized Suits and Blazer’s trend is sticking around for the Spring according to the New York Fashion Week 2018! If you think you look like you’re going into a corporate office wearing a full suit – no worries there are ways you can pull this look off in a casual way! The first trick is to get a suit that is relaxed fitting – something oversized and not very structured. Another tip is to wear sneakers with the suit – yes, I said sneakers! This makes the look a lot less formal and it is a huge trend! With that said, if you want to take it a step further – put a graphic tee under and you’re ready to go!

Sheer Trend

We saw a lot of the Sheer Trend fabrics used on the New York Fashion Week 2018 runway so far – this will be a beautiful look for the Spring! In Toronto it is still winter and it might be a little more difficult to incorporate this trend right away – however – it is still possible! Pair a sheer top with an oversized puffer jacket, black trousers, booties and winter accessories. This will make you feel elegant, edgy and appropriate for winter in one look!

There are still a ton of shows yet to come this week during New York Fashion Week 2018 such as Zimmermann, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, and more!

That’s not all – there is other fashion shows happening in other major fashion capitals such as Milan Fashion Week 2018 and London Fashion Week 2018! Check out more fashion events near me in London here!
